Every time I get new suede shoes, I am so afraid to wear them. They will inevitably get drips, smudges, or some kind of precipitation on them. And it will make a lasting stain- even water. My husband is all about proper shoe care and always offers to spray my suede shoes for me. He does and it definitely helps with the stains and the wet marks. For my most recent shoe purchase, I brought the spray to him and stuck around to take a few notes. If you have this problem, here is our solution.
Start by removing any laces. Head to the garage or a dry, well ventilated area.
We used an old sheet to catch the overspray.
Spray from around 10 inches away. Do a decent coat from all angles.
We let the first coat sit overnight and the next day. We did a second coat 24 hours later and let it dry again for another 12 hours.
Because the spray darkened them so much when it was wet, I was nervous that the silicone spray was going to discolor the suede permanently, but once it dried you couldn’t tell we had done a thing.
Now your shoes are better than new and ready to wear! Go get some and start spraying!
