Last August to celebrate my birthday, I challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone every day for a month and shared my progress with the Nickel & Suede community. It was challenging and I learned a lot about myself. Stepping out of your comfort zone can often be intimidating because it seems like it must be something monumental, but it doesn’t have to be to feel the impact. Here are a few ways to get started:
- Find an event that you are interested in and go to it. It can be an industry-specific networking event, fashion show, speaking event, or continuing education.
- Find a new recipe, shop for ingredients, and try making it. Bonus points if you haven’t liked an ingredient in the past, or it’s a dish you’ve never tried.
- Volunteer to work with those less fortunate than you. It could be with refugees, the homeless, or kids with special needs. There are so many resources for finding organizations in your community that need your help.
For more ideas, be sure to listen to the podcast and hear how my month of stepping out of my comfort zone worked for me. I hope these ideas spark something inside you to try one new or uncomfortable thing this week.
