I’ve been a mom for twelve years and an entrepreneur for just as long. When my first born was six weeks old, I had the idea to make a baby belt which was how I launched my first Etsy shop. With that experience, I found something that I needed not just as a person, but as a mom too. Being creative and having a passion just for myself is the thing that has saved me along the way, and I think it’s what has made me a good mother. I’ve learned so much by just always having something I am working on and pursuing – and it doesn’t need to be a big thing either. I’ve had all sorts of side projects that didn‘t involve starting a business! But the experience itself has given me so much confidence, and I know it will give other women confidence.
I have also thought a lot about how our kids grow up and how they perceive us. Our kids watch us, and they emulate what we do which matters more than anything we could ever say. I don’t remember what my parents told me growing up, but I remember things that they did and what I saw them do that impacts my choices to this day. When I’m struggling with something as a parent or even just as an adult, I try to remember how my parents accomplished it. Whether it was housekeeping, chores, or taking care of the lawn, how my parents got things done is usually my blueprint for accomplishing any task now.
And even for those who aren’t parents. We all have a circle of influence, and the way we make the most significant impact is if we’re willing to pursue what we want for ourselves. So not only will taking care of ourselves make us the best person to show up for other people, but we can also set that example and encourage others to pursue what makes them the best version of themselves.
The best moms are the ones who are the best versions of themselves. The best version of you is always going to be the best mom you can be. It’s why I am so passionate about women pursuing things they are interested in. While you’re taking care of little people, or big people, you have to take care of yourself too.
