Summary: In this week’s episode, I talk about style and what it looks like after a year of sweatpants and Zoom meetings. I touch on upcoming trends, how to update your wardrobe, and why the season’s best accessory is confidence.”
After a whole year of sweats and pajamas, it’s time to start getting dressed and leaving the house again. As we go back to restaurants and get together with friends, you might ask yourself, what do I wear?
I have always been a proponent of getting myself ready for the day. When we take the time to get dressed, we feel more alert and prepared to leave the house (even if we don’t!). Here are a few small steps you can take toward getting ready again.
First, take a full honest assessment of your closet. It’s good to know what you already have. Pick out the things you love and try them on with an open mind. Don’t bother with what you’ve never liked or has never fit. Focus on what makes you feel great. Once you know what you’ve already got, build on it. Look for what’s easy and make sure you still love how it makes you feel.
Don’t toss those sweats! Sweatsuits are still totally on-trend. Fashion was going casual and the pandemic accelerated that. Add fresh sneakers and layer on a jacket to elevate the look.
Dresses are having a major moment this year. Look for florals and flowy dresses. Having a dress you love and can wear in different ways will be a great item to have this spring and summer.
I’m going to suggest something that might be controversial…Update your denim. Are skinny jeans uncool? Not at all. The reason I love fashion is that it’s constantly evolving. And so are we! I think all different cuts of denim are going to be in style for a long time. Take the opportunity to leave your comfort zone and try a new style.
Shoes & Accessories:
Shoes are always a great chance to break out of your comfort zone. New shoes do wonders! There are lots of great options and trends with sandals right now. Did I mention that I love new shoes? They always make me feel good, and your size always fits. Same with accessories. A new earring or headband can bring new life to clothes you’ve had for years. And like shoes, they always fit!
Confidence is the Best Accessory:
The most important thing about enjoying the world again whether in your favorite sweatsuit or new floral dress is the experience. Remember – it’s all about owning it and having confidence. As women, I think it is easy for us to get down on ourselves. It would be so sad if we missed out on incredible experiences because we can’t feel good about how we look. Own the style that you like – something that let’s your most authentic self shine, and your confidence and ability to enjoy the moment will follow.
