With Kilee Nickels Podcast: Optimism and Silver Linings- Episode 51

Synopsis: In this week’s episode, Kilee talks about finding the silver linings in 2021, what they might look like in our own lives, and how we can seek them out.

Today’s conversation is about one of my favorite topics and a value that is one of Nickel and Suede’s pillars. Optimism! Today, I want to talk about a certain kind of optimism – Silver Linings. It’s the thought that we choose to see the good, even when it’s not apparent to us.  With 2020 coming to an end, I think we all had so many big ideas and hopes for a new year, but it would be crazy to believe that a new year on the calendar automatically changes anything. That’s where choosing to find the silver linings in life can really make an impact as we all look forward.

At work, I was hoping we would hit 100% of our goal this last year, even exceed it. But the pandemic hit the retail sector more than we ever anticipated. We might not have reached our original goals, but we were happy with other milestones. Our BFF Facebook group exploded to more than 8,000 incredible women. We introduced a number of new styles that our customers really loved. As I look back, we have a lot to be proud of.

My eldest, Easton, started middle school last fall. I encouraged him to find new friends, have a good time, and make the most out of such a big change. Then school went virtual. While he might be missing out on some great things, his middle school experience will be unique to this moment in time. It’s temporary, and he is gaining other positive experiences in the meantime.

We all know someone who can see the good and point out the silver linings in life, and those people are magnetic. It feels good to be around them because they spotlight the hope and goodness that still exists. I would challenge you to continue the journey of finding silver linings this year and for the rest of your life. This year will still bring heartache, trouble, and difficulties- there will always be clouds, but there’s a silver lining peeking out from the storm if we look close enough.
